Veterans Committee

On December 5th, multiple Locals within IBEW 3rd District (PA, NY, NJ & DE)met for the second ever veterans committee meeting. District 3 is the first district to meet as a committee and started discussions on veteran recruitment, veteran benefits and physical and mental health of our veteran members. Local 29 is proud to be on the forefront of this developing initiative. Initial goals of the committee include identifying a practical avenue to recruit separating and reservist service members. Local 29 along other locals are working together to offer great opportunities to transition into a good job with benefits that many veterans are looking for. Additionally, we want to educate current members on benefits available to veterans within the workplace as well as outside, such as apprenticeship and schooling reimbursement through the GI bill, and VA programs within the community.
Finally, we want to focus on the well-being of our veterans who may be struggling with service-related illnesses, both physical and mental. By opening the discussion on all these topics, we hope to enhance the lives of our IBEW members (active and retired) that are veterans and make them aware of the resources available to them. As we continue to meet and develop ways to achieve our goals we will diversify our initiatives based on the feedback we receive from our members.
Although this is a veteran focused committee it is not exclusive to veterans only. As many of us know, military service effects not only the veteran but their family and friends as well. As we continue to develop, volunteer opportunities, they will become available for veterans as well as non-veterans. We are currently in the process of identifying our current veterans to make them aware of the committee and its goals. We will continue to post updates and opportunities on the IBEW Local 29 website.
