NRG/GenOn felt in order to keep the Cheswick plant competitive, they needed to cut jobs in both management and the union. In an effort to get volunteers instead of laying off, the Company and Union met and worked on an agreement for an enhanced VSP (Voluntary Severance Program ). The agreement would give the employee selecting the VSP, 1.5 weeks pay for each year of service with a maximum of 52 weeks and a minimum of 8 weeks, all other benefits will stay the same. The Companies target number is 8 for a reduction in the Union and they are reducing management by 5. I believe we will get at least 8 to take the VSP which will keep anyone from being laid off.
