After three and a half days of early negotiations with Duquesne Light Company, the Union and the Company both agreed that it was unlikely that a deal could be struck so, on Thursday, February 2Pt negotiations were ended. I believe both sides worked hard to come to an agreement, but we were to far apart in a couple of key areas to overcome it in such a short period of time. I am sure we will have to face those same issues (contracting out was a big one) later this year when we start regular negotiations (we will probably start meeting in August) but we will have more time to try and resolve the issues and come to an agreement.
I want to thank all of the members again for your input on the surveys and your support as we went through this process, I am confident we will get a fair contract before the October 1st expiration date, but your support and solidarity will be needed to achieve this goal.
I ask that everyone continue to follow all work and safety policies and be a professional IBEW member in everything you do by being respectful and doing your job to the best of your ability.
