With this pandemic upon us and the unknown ahead of us, I want to thank all of the members who are working either from home, a temporary location or at your normal location, these are trying times so I thank you for acting with professionalism as all IBEW members do.
We have been working with all five employers (Duquesne Light, Port Authority, Energy Harbor BV, Genon and People's Gas) some employers have been more proactive than others. As a union we must also be proactive and able to adapt to changes that we will need to make to keep our members and their families safe but at the same time allow the company's to still operate and serve the community.
If issues arise in the workplace with the COVID-19 that don't seem right and supervision won't address your concern, talk over the issue with your union steward to find the best course of action. I ask all stewards to keep their Reps in the loop on all issues, communication is critical in times like this from both the top and the bottom we must work together. Glenn and myself appreciate all the work from the Stewards, Business Reps and E-Board members in dealing with all of the issues during this time.
While many businesses close and their employees sign up for unemployment, we have a vital role in keeping the lights on along with helping those people get through this hardship in any way we can. I ask everyone of our members to look for ways to help those in need, it's something that I believe all union members should do as we are the backbone of this community.
The most important thing every member can do is to stay focused and work safely to get through these unchartered times, if we do that, then we will all get through this together and be better off for it.
