Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Friday, December 21, 2018

I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, and I hope you enjoy the time you have to spend with your family. I would like to wish our Jewish brothers and sisters a Happy Hanukkah, especially in light of the shooting at the Synagogue in Squirrel Hill, please keep them in your thoughts and prayers this holiday season. To those of you that have to work on Christmas Day I want to thank you all for keeping the lights on, while the rest of us are at home with our family and friends. I have worked my share of holidays when I would have rather stayed home, but I was always thankful that the Union had negotiated a good Holiday pay, that helped make it a little easier going to work on those days. This time year can be hectic with all the Christmas shopping and holiday get togethers on top of work, but it can be a joyous time also. If you have young children or grandchildren nothing is better than to see their smiles while opening presents. There are many hard working parents out there that can't afford the little things that we take for granted as union workers with good wages and benefits, that's why if you have the opportunity to help someone that is struggling this is the time of year to do it. It will make you feel good by helping someone and it will relieve some of the stress I'm sure that family is feeling. I know we have many generous members in our local and it shows every year when our Local 29 community services committee collects toys for Stuff The Bus, it is always packed. When I say generous, I don't just mean financially, I mean with their time also. This time of year, the elderly can use help in many ways if you have the time to help them. You can do some shopping for them or shovel snow or even just spend some time talking to them, it will be a big lift to their spirits. I want to thank everyone for their help and support this past year and I look forward to working with everyone in 2019. I will be putting out a year end update and review of 2018 in the next couple of weeks, I believe we had a very positive year for this local and will build on that in the upcoming year. Have a Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year!
