A Message from Business Manager Kenn Bradley
Unfortunately, like so many other events, the Labor Day Parade and picnic have been canceled this year due to COVID-19. It is always such a great event because you get to see a lot of members and their families along with many retirees who come out and enjoy the march and picnic that follows. I hope to see everyone next year happy and healthy marching as we always do.
Even though the parade is canceled, COVID-19 cannot stop the holiday celebration for labor as it will still be celebrated but now in so many different ways. Here are a few ideas that you may find interesting and I would encourage every union member to do at some point in time. Visit some of the historic sites around Pittsburgh such as Homestead where the Pinkerton guards attacked striking steelworkers and people from both sides died. You can read books on the history of labor in Pittsburgh, this was and still is a strong union town where many battles for labor have been fought. There are many websites that you can get information from but one of the best might be Battleofhomestead.org please take a minute to at least look at it.
Anyone that would like a book on the "125 year History & Structure of the IBEW" we have a limited number at the Union Hall that we can send out on a first come basis so please call if you would like one.
Have a great Labor Day Weekend and be proud that you are a member of an IBEW Union, I believe the IBEW is the best all around union there is.
